Season 2022-2023

The holiday season is fast approaching, and so is everyone's favorite Christmas tale!
The Tompkins Ballet of Quebec presents The Nutcracker at Théâtre Marcellin-Champagnat, December 19-22, 2022 and at the Maison des arts de Laval, December 28-29, 2022.

The action takes place in a ballet studio at the end of the 19th century where a ballet mistress gives her last class to her students before the Christmas vacations. Of course, under the tree are the presents that the students are all very eager to open, but before opening them, the teacher asks them to try on the costumes from the Nutcracker ballet. Quietly, the whole team is transported to this famous Hoffman tale where specific characters lead the way. Clara, surrounded by her friends, will receive a visit from her godfather, Mr. Drosselmeyer.
When it's time for the presents, Clara sees her godfather take away the present she had chosen. But surprise, the present is replaced by two bigger presents and in one of her big presents is a nutcracker that will make her dance and protect her from the rat queen. Also included in this debate are the soldiers who will come to her aid. This confrontation ends with a full-scale battle between the rats and the soldiers. The nutcracker, wounded in this fight, is transformed by Mr. Drosselmeyer the magician into a charming prince who will take him far from these places of combat in a calm country filled with snow where they will be received by the king, his queen and their dolphin.
After the snowy kingdom, the prince brings Clara not to the kingdom of sweets as the Hoffman tale would have it, but to another planet. On this planet, there are also Spaniards, Arabs, Russians and even a snake trainer. The inhabitants of this new planet dance the famous flower waltz interpreted in their own way. The show ends with Clara receiving a tutu as a gift and performing the Grand Pas de Deux with the prince.
A colorful show, full of joy and twists, a performance for the whole family!
